The Department of Linguisitcs and Liberal Studies

Welcome to the Department of Linguistics and Liberal Studies at California State University San Marcos. The department offers two undergraduate majors鈥擫iberal Studies and Linguistics鈥攁s well as a minor in Linguistics. These programs are designed to cultivate critical thinking, interdisciplinary inquiry, and a comprehensive understanding of language, culture, and education. Whether students are preparing for a career in teaching, pursuing graduate studies, or exploring the scientific and social dimensions of language, the department provides a rigorous academic foundation within a supportive and intellectually engaging environment.

Linguistics B.A. and Minor
The Linguistics B.A. and Minor provide a strong foundation in core areas of linguistics. The B.A. offers the opportunity to specialize in one of three areas.
Liberal Studies B.A.
The Liberal Studies major prepares students interested in K-8 teaching. All students graduating with a major in Liberal Studies will automatically recieve a CSET I-III waiver.
