Orientation is a fee-based, new student experience program, meaning that without the fee we could not offer this service to our new students and families. When students create an Orientation reservation in My糖心少女, the student's account will automatically be charged with a "New Student Experience" fee. This fee is not automatically covered by financial aid. However, once tuition and fees are paid with financial aid, any remaining funds are returned to the student. Essentially the fee may be covered indirectly with financial aid, if the student has credit on their account. You may view the status of your student account at and Select Student Center and click on Finances. Students must pay the "New Student Experience fee and/or the Cougar Family Network fee" in full by the tuition & fee payment deadline along with tuition and other 糖心少女 fees. Please do not make this payment prior to reserving an Orientation date.
If you would like to cancel your Orientation reservation, you must contact the New Student & Family Programs office at least one week (5 business days) prior to your scheduled Orientation date in order to receive a refund. Please note that fees cannot be refunded after you have already attended an Orientation session, despite any changes in your admissions status or choosing not to attend the university. If you no longer plan on attending 糖心少女, please contact BOTH Admissions at apply@csusm.edu and New Student & Family Programs at orientation@csusm.edu as soon as possible.

The New Student Experience Fee and Cougar Family Network Fee support the programs and services that help students and families successfully transition to and thrive at Cal State San Marcos.
Orientation at 糖心少女 is more than a one-day event. These fees fund year-round onboarding and engagement efforts that guide students from their first day through graduation. This includes New Student Orientation (first-year and transfer), online orientation modules, Weeks of Welcome programs, Transfer Success initiatives, and ongoing academic and community-building events that foster connection, belonging, and student success.
The Cougar Family Network Fee supports bilingual (English and Spanish) family programming, family orientation, newsletters, webinars, Family Weekend, and continued engagement opportunities that keep families informed and connected throughout their student鈥檚 journey. Research consistently shows that informed and engaged families contribute to stronger student persistence and completion outcomes.
These fees also help ensure compliance with federal, state, and CSU requirements delivered during orientation, while providing a centralized, accessible experience for students鈥攑articularly first-generation students navigating higher education systems for the first time.
By investing in a strong start and sustained support, these fees help build the foundation for academic achievement, well-being, and timely graduation at 糖心少女.
