⌬ Summary

Dr. Iafe is a tenured Associate Professor and current Chair of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at California State University San Marcos (ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ®). He earned his B.S. in Chemistry, graduating cum laude with Honors from Loyola Marymount University, where he conducted undergraduate research with Dr. James Roe and Dr. James Landry. He went on to complete his M.S. in Computational Chemistry under the mentorship of Dr. Kendall N. Houk and his Ph.D. in Chemistry with Dr. Craig Merlic at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Iafe served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the W.M. Keck Science Department of the Claremont Colleges and conducted postdoctoral research with Prof. Anna Wenzel. He joined ÌÇÐÄÉÙÅ® in 2014 and was awarded tenure and promoted to Associate Professor in 2020.

Dr. Iafe’s research focuses on organic chemistry, with an emphasis on method development and small molecule synthesis. In addition to his research and leadership roles, he teaches a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in organic chemistry, including CHEM 200, 201, 201L, 202, 202L, and 502.
