The Psychology Academic Resource Laboratory (PARL) is a resource for all undergraduate
students in psychology and the social sciences. The purpose of the PARL is to provide
academic support for enhancing quantitative, computing, writing, biological, and research
methodology skills that are essential to psychological science. The PARL also offers
a variety of specialized computer programs and tutorials on statistics, research methods,
psychometrics, and the biological bases of behavior. Psychological science graduate
students staff the lab, which will be available during the semester on a drop-in basis
(hours are posted below). Graduate assistants also provide limited individual attention
for academic consultation. Check with Soheyla Mohseni (phone: 760-750-4102) for further information about PARL.
Students seeking help with a specific assignment should bring the course syllabus
and/or the assignment requirements. This will help us better understand your needs
and provide effective support.
PARL is not intended to assist with last-minute assignments or provide direct answers.
Some questions may require more time and discussion, so students should plan ahead.
PARL staff cannot review entire lectures, sets of notes, or other course materials
with students. Students should first review these materials independently and come
to PARL with specific questions.
PARL staff are happy to help with assignment-related questions, but students should
contact their instructor when they need clarification about course expectations, requirements,
or content.
Students should provide sufficient context and come prepared with specific questions
so that PARL staff can use the available time effectively.
Applying for a PARL Staff Position:
Each year the department hires graduate students to work in PARL. This position allows
