Code of Conduct

The code of conduct was developed by a faculty-led task force, informed by a broad
set of stakeholders including students. The code reflects our shared commitment to
establishing a respectful, inclusive, and positive environment at the college. The
code is reflective of the quality and innovativeness of CoBA. The development of CoBA鈥檚
code of conduct speaks to the strength of our community and our willingness to reflect
inward to advance ourselves forward.
Professionalism and Accountability
As a student, you are expected to:
- Take ownership of your actions and their consequences.
- Follow classroom policies and syllabus guidelines.
- Approach faculty and staff respectfully with concerns or questions, using appropriate
communication channels.
- Be respectful in all forms of communication, including emails and social media.
- Avoid disruptive behavior in class or disrespecting faculty's time outside.
Faculty are expected to:
- Respond to student inquiries in a timely manner.
- Provide appropriately clear guidelines in the syllabus and for assignments.
- Be accessible for questions and support within the established office hours or communication
channels.
- Use clear, respectful, and professional language in all forms of communication, including
emails and meetings.
Respect and Civility
As a student, you are expected to:
- Treat faculty, staff, and peers with respect by listening actively, avoiding interruptions,
and refraining from heckling or using disrespectful language.
- Respect the diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and identities of all members of the
CoBA community.
- Do not engage in any form of harassment, bullying, or discrimination.
Faculty are expected to:
- Ensure a learning environment that respects diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and
identities and is free from harassment, bullying, and discrimination.
- Treat students with respect and avoid using dismissive language or tone.
Attendance and Classroom Engagement
As a student, you are expected to:
- Attend all scheduled classes and notify instructors in advance of any absences.
- Arrive on time, stay until class is dismissed, and do not pack up before class is
dismissed or leave in the middle of the session without a valid reason.
- Come to class prepared, having completed all required readings and assignments.
- Actively engage in class activities and discussions.
- Do not use electronic devices for purposes that are not directly related to the class.
Faculty are expected to:
- Begin and end class on time, ensuring that class materials and discussions respect
students' time and engagement.
- Actively engage with students during class, encouraging participation and fostering
a dynamic learning environment.
Academic Integrity and Commitment
As a student, you are expected to:
- Uphold the highest standards of academic honesty and integrity.
- Avoid plagiarism, cheating, unauthorized use of Artificial Intelligence, and other
forms of academic misconduct.
- Ask for help when needed and utilize available resources such as tutoring centers
and office hours.
Faculty are expected to:
- Set clear expectations for academic integrity, be transparent about grading criteria,
and maintain a fair assessment process that rewards genuine effort and learning.
- Provide guidance and support to students, helping them to achieve their academic and
professional goals.
