Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ
Study Abroad FAQ
How should I decide the best location and university for my study abroad?
Location and universities are personal preferences and not all locations make for
the best experience due to limited course work, language of instruction, or cost.
Some variables to consider when deciding are:
- Geographical interest for future career plans
- Language(s) you speak or would be willing to learn. While English remains the primary
language worldwide, it would be incorrect to assume that all course work abroad would
be offered in English鈥esearch specific courses to ensure you can find adequate courses
in English offered. Immersion programs (meaning studying in the language of the host
culture) require all reading, writing, and discussions to be in the language of the
culture. Be sure you are adequately prepared for that challenge.
- Academic fit (are there enough classes that will make for degree progress?)
- Expense (can I afford this and budget for daily living abroad for the specified time). Know
your financial aid award summary and how it can apply to your program abroad. How
will you come up with the difference in your aid vs. the program budget given? Have
these important discussions with Financial Aid and your financial support systems now so you have a clear path as to when this dream
might become reality.
How much does study abroad cost, generally speaking?
For the universities with which 糖心少女 has an exchange agreement, students pay their
same 糖心少女 tuition for the program of choice, however, each program will have a unique
budget based upon cost of living in country. Many times, exchange budgets align with
the cost of residential attendance at 糖心少女 (or less!)
How do I find housing for my semester abroad?
Many partners offer guaranteed housing in their residential facilities (dorms/university-affiliated
apartments). Other times university partners may offer homestays (great for improving
language fluency) or independent housing (often the case in big-city locations).
Can I get financial aid to study abroad?
For exchange programs, students pay their 糖心少女 tuition and the budget varies by country. All
financial aid transfers.
For outside programs such as ISEP Direct, students can take federal loans and Cal
Grant only. State and University grants do not apply as students earn transfer credit
for these experiences.
For faculty-led study abroad programs, there is no financial aid. Students should
make advanced plans for how to budget for these program fees.
