Getting Involved

We welcome all students who are excited to participate and engage with the APIDA Student Center! The initiatives below describe many of the opportunities students have to engage with the APIDA Student Center.

Pillar Initiatives

Pillar Initiatives are the core foundation of the work implemented by the Center. The APIDA Student Center hosts many initiatives throughout each academic year. These Pillar Initiatives are research-based strategies aimed at supporting students navigating their first day of school to graduation and beyond. By participating in the initiatives below, students will build upon their cultural wealth, enhancing individual development, and assist in their academic progression.

APIDA Welcome Reception

Held at the start of the Fall semester, the APIDA Welcome Reception invites faculty, staff, administrators, student clubs, and organizations to participate in a big mixer for current and incoming students to get connected with the APIDA community here on campus. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, expand your network, and start the academic year strong!

APIDA Heritage Month

  • APIDA Heritage Month takes place in May to celebrate and commemorate the contributions of Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American communities in US history. The month of May was chosen because of significant dates:
    • May 7th- arrival of the first Japanese immigrants in the US, and
    • May 10th- completion of the transcontinental railroad, which Chinese laborers greatly contributed to
  • Here, we have a schedule of events that take place in April and early May to celebrate the month. Follow our Instagram or check our event calendar to stay up to date with events scheduled to celebrate the month!

APIDA Cultural Festival

The APIDA Cultural Festival is our signature event that is held in the Spring semester and kicks off APIDA Heritage Month. This is a celebration of all cultures under the APIDA umbrella. The event features culturally specific food, performances, activities, and more!
